Why biochar?

What is Biochar?

Biochar is a form of "charcoal" from waste material. It is cooked in a low oxygen environment in a process called "Pyrolysis". It is a form of Carbon Storage that is stable for over 1000 years.

Biochar Basics

Biochar has a low capex and holds profitable unit economics at scale. It keeps carbon in the soil, where it belongs.

92% efficient carbon removal with an 8% reforestation offset to restore the land.

Beachhead Biochar is used for Millenia (Amazon's Terra Preta).

Benefits of Biochar

Biochar extremely absorbent. A sugar cube size of biochar has the surface area of a football field. It's binding power is great in that dissolved solid, gas or liquid adhere to it's surface. It is ideal for capturing and immobilizing contaminants and enhancing water and enhancing nutrient retention

Issues in Global Fertilizer Supply

33% of global soil is degraded. 90% is at risk by 2050

We are globally dependent on chemical-based, NPK fertilizer (nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium), Oil and Gas for energy.

Biochar is our solution. Along with micro-organisms, this investment will increase soil effectiveness. It will improve oil health, water retention and reduce the dependency on "Big Agriculture".

Agroecological Perspective

  • Organic bio-fertilizer reduces exposure to harmful agrochemicals.
  • It improves household income and resiliency.
  • It is climate resilient and holds a small carbon footprint.
  • It creates successful farms through biodiversity, healthy soil and high yields.

Market Value of Organic Bio-Fertilizer

  • High profits from higher yields with increased nutritional value.
  • Healthy soil that increases energy efficiency.
  • Stabilizes local production.
  • Supports local farms and ensures job security.
  • Creates sustainability by undercutting imported chemical fertilizer.

Revenue Streams of Biochar

Biochar: Wholesale $250/Tonne with Retail $2,000-$3,000 per Tonne.

Activated Carbon: Wholesale $2,500/Tonne

Biofertilizer: Wholesale $500/Tonne
